ABOUT

The Story of Scions of Sinai Wines

Vigneron, Bernhard Bredell, hails from a long lineage of winemakers, rooted in the rich wine-farming heritage of the Lower Helderberg region in Southern Stellenbosch. With over 160 years of family legacy in wine cultivation, Bernhard proudly represents the seventh generation of winemakers in the Bredell family.

In 2016, Bernhard embarked on his personal journey and established Scions of Sinai, a venture inspired by the iconic granite outcrop known as Sinai Hill. Nestled within this historic terrain, Bernhard’s vision is dedicated to honoring the ancient dry-farmed bush vines meticulously tended by generations before him. Many of these vines, rooted in the soil by his late grandfather during the 1960s and 1970s, serve as the heart and soul of Scions of Sinai

At the core of our philosophy lies a commitment to crafting wines of unparalleled purity and authenticity, echoing the very essence of their terroir. Each bottle encapsulates the intrinsic honesty and character of its origin, speaking volumes of the land from which it emerges.

Situated in the Lower Helderberg of Southern Stellenbosch, our vineyards benefit from the region’s distinctive maritime influence and the characteristically lighter granite soils. These unique terroir elements contribute to the unparalleled expression found in each bottle of Scions of Sinai wine.

The Name Explained: Scions of Sinai

Scions of Sinai pays homage to the rich heritage and hidden significance of Sinai Hill, nestled amidst the Helderberg region, just 12 km south of Stellenbosch Town. Despite its obscurity on modern maps, Sinai Hill, also known as ‘Berg Sinai,’ has long been revered by generational farmers for its historical importance dating back to the 1700s.

The name “Scions of Sinai” epitomizes our deep reverence for both the land and our familial heritage. “Scion” holds a dual significance, symbolizing the tender shoot of a young vine and the lineage of generations past. Just as the roots of our vines run deep into the soil of Sinai Hill, so too does our connection to its storied past, serving as a testament to our commitment to preserving Cape Heritage for future generations.

Our Commitment to the Environment

At Scions of Sinai, we meticulously embrace a holistic approach, working harmoniously with nature to nurture soil vitality. Our unwavering commitment to chemical-free, minimal-intervention practices extends from the vineyards to the winery.

By prioritizing the health of the land, we strive to produce wines of uncompromising quality that authentically capture the essence of their origin – reflecting the rich history, character, and soul of the vineyard and its soil.

Our Rich History

At Scions of Sinai, we pride ourselves on upholding the family values passed down through seven generations of winemakers, rooted in the fertile soils of Lower Helderberg.
