GRAMADOELAS

“Gramadoelas is a remotely located registered Grenache blanc Single Vineyard and forms part of the site specific range. These vines are situated far away from the normal viticultural districts of the Cape in a region still scarcely known, the Klein Karoo, far to the East of the Western Cape. Tucked away between Schist and Sandstone hills in the Meiringspoort vacinity of the Swartberge. Here, conditions are dry and arid with quite acidic shale and schist derived soils and it can feel quite like a desert. But on a specially located game farm there is a valley between the hills where some vineyards seem to thrive. The grapes turn out the opposite of its growing conditions…delicate, fresh and refined with a unique expression of this geographical intriguing site. This is it…the “Gramadoelas” (African expression for “the middel of nowhere”). Planted by Hannes Wiehan in 2009.”

Karoo Schist next to the Gramadoelas vineyard. Reminiscent of a typical setting in North Eastern Spain’s Priorat region.
