“Féniks is a registered Pinotage Single Vineyard and forms part of the site specific cultivar range. In the Lower Helderberg vicinity of Southern Stellenbosch. This is an unique old dry farmed (zero irrigation) bushvine vineyard planted on a sandy textured soil with high silica fragments in topsoil at a mere 3.5km from the ocean – a rare occurrence for any Pinotage and also the closest registered Pinotage to the ocean in SA (inducing cooler ripening conditions from the maritime climate). Soils are very poor and yields very low, focussing on delicious flavour packed berries and vibrant aromas expressing the site with a pure character. Planted by brothers Koos and Pieter Bredell in 1976.”
